Region profile
The Konrad-Zuse-city Hoyerswerda, close of the frontier to Brandenburg, is the largest city in the north Saxonian area and represents an important center situation in the Upper Lusatia. Because of the crossover of the federal highways B 96 and B 97, Hoyerswerda has the special advantage of the proximity to the capital Berlin, to the state capital Dresden, to the cities Cottbus, Bautzen and Görlitz as well as to the EU countries Czech republic and Poland. The largest man-made water landscape in Europe is located in Lusatia. Located in the middle of this - Lusatian lake land -, the lively town of Hoyerswerda offers one of the most exciting business locations with excellent infrastructure potential and soft location factors. The town was influenced and shaped by the brown coal industry in Lusatia. Today, in addition to medium-sized businesses, trade and tourism, it is characterized by excellent settlements in high-tech research fields. In Hoyerswerda and the immediate surroundings, the SmartMobilityLAB is being built in the Schwarzkollm district, the CircularEconomyCampus CircEcon in the industrial site Schwarze Pumpe and the research technical center ZBW Center for Building and Living of LAUTECH in the industrial site Zeißig. In the future, the LAB Lausitz Art of Building and the DZA German Center for Astrophysics will also permanently promote sustainable and future-oriented urban development. Hoyerswerda combines the topics of innovation and new work with the advantages of rural areas. This means that the city and its surrounding area have supra-regional attention and attractive networking potential for the economy in the structural strengthening process of Lusatia.
