Region profile
The Konrad-Zuse-city Hoyerswerda, close of the frontier to Brandenburg, is the largest city in the north Saxonian area and represents an important center situation in the Upper Lusatia. Because of the crossover of the federal highways B 96 and B 97, Hoyerswerda has the special advantage of the proximity to the capital Berlin, to the state capital Dresden, to the cities Cottbus, Bautzen and Görlitz as well as to the EU countries Czech republic and Poland. In the midst of the new developing holiday region - Lusatian lake land - the city not associated with a county Hoyerswerda is already now an attractive location for trade and services. The structure as well as the development of innovative economic fields and technologies in the area of "renewable energies", were embodied firmly by an integrated town development concept, part of economics. In the second half of the 20. century, Hoyerswerda was shaped strongly by the development and settlement of the brown coal industry at the neighbouring industrial site Schwarze Pumpe. Today the tradition of energy production in this region is to be preserved and maintained by equivalent development and use of the three main branches of the "renewable energies" wind, solar and biomass.
