Region profile
The District Town of Großenhain, situated before the gates of Dresden, is one of the most dynamic small towns in Saxony and deserves to become your future place of investment. Großenhain is winner of misc. awards, at last in 2007 the "Most Medium-Sized Business Friendly Administration in Germany Award". At an enormous pace of development, Großenhain has turned into an attractive business location. In recent years, the town has seen one of the highest investment quotas per inhabitant in Saxony. Unlike in any other community, investments are preferably made into sustainable projects. The Town of Großenhain has one of the largest and most up-to-date high schools in Saxony, attended by almost one thousand students. Following the tradition of the well-known inventor in the fields of electrical engineering and telegraphy, Werner von Siemens, the school especially emphasizes natural sciences and focuses on the creativity of its students. The Training and Technology Center of the Chamber of Trades, which is a leading educational institution for metal-processing and welding technology, is also located here. Businesses of long-standing tradition, such as the drop and hammer forge, but also Germany's largest manufacturer of car trailers, the Stema Metalleichtbau GmbH, gain from the traditional local strength in engineering and metal processing. A great number of builders' and contractors' firms and new businesses characterize Großenhain's entrepreneurial spirit. Other branches, such as the manufacture of plastic parts, the glass and construction industry and, most importantly, the field of renewable energy distinguish the town as a site of innovative sustainability. Best investment opportunities are to be found on the Airport Industrial Estate, where 8 ha of space are still available. Its good location at the crossroads of two federal roads, its proximity to the highway, its connection to the railway network and its levelled-off industrial areas equipped with top-notch infrastructure, immediately adjacent to the airport will certainly speak for the park-like terrain. Reasonable property and rental costs, low consequential charges and the short distance to the state capital of Dresden make the town an attractive alternative. Dresden with its science, research and cultural facilities is within easy reach thanks to the well-developed infrastructure. From a tourist's point of view, they will appreciate the more than a-thousand-year-old town characterized by the cultural landscape of the "Großenhainer Pflege" with its green meadows and floodplains along the Röder river. More than 100 clubs offer a wide range of sports and cultural activities, and numerous attractive leisure-time and recreational facilities can well serve as a starting point for a vacation to discover Saxony's rural regions. Just to name a few: the modern natural swimming pool "NaturErlebnisBad", the 40-ha town park, the Castle Cultural Center and the beautiful "Marienkirche", the little sister to Dresden's "Church of Our Lady".
